Janet Sarbanes reading + Jackson Fledermaus singing

Saturday November 1st, 8pm

Please join us for the first Janet / Jackson show at Machine Project — a pre-election reading by
Janet Sarbanes and musical performance by Jackson Fledermaus.

Janet Sarbanes will be reading from her recently completed novel, Wendy’s America: The Adventures of the President’s Daughter, a satire chronicling the coming of age of an awkward, idealistic young woman whose father happens to be the increasingly bellicose President of the United States. The last time Janet came by Machine she read from her short story collection, Army of One, which was described by Marc Weingarten of the LA Weekly as “quietly devastating” and “mordantly funny.” Set largely in Southern California, the stories follow a series of quirky female protagonists on quixotic missions to make the world a better place.

Janet teaches narrative theory and writing in the MFA Program and cultural studies in the School of Critical Studies at the California Institute of the Arts.

Our favorite singer of billy goat-themed folk music, Jackson Fledermaus, will open.
