In Flatlands: Non-Hierarchical Space and its Uses artist Sam Gould describes the methodology and benefit of non-hierarchical space, which he defines as being inherently pedagogical, social, and experiential in nature.

By discussing seemingly disparate histories, such as, Vietnam Day, the story of Home, Washington, the International Pop Underground Convention, and What the Heck Fest, as well as through the outlining of past works which he helped facilitate through the artist collaborative Red76, Gould helps to illuminate a working methodology which aims towards being inclusive and generative.
