Millinery is the art of making hats by hand using wooden head blocks and simple hand-sewing techniques. In this class you will make your own, one-of-a-kind hat using wool felt and an assortment of trim materials.

You can make an original version of a classic fedora, porkpie, bowler, top hat, cap, or cloche or invent your own free-form sculpted design. If you have a specific idea of a hat you would like to make or lines that you would like to evoke, such as architectural designs, photos of flowers or landscapes, please bring images or hats from your own collection to class. If you have any feathers, jewelry, buttons or fabric that you would like to use, please feel free to bring that in as well.

Beginners welcome-some hand-sewing skills are a bonus!

Refund policy:
Please note, all class fees include a non-refundable enrollment deposit of $25 that will be deducted from your refund if you sign up for, then drop, a class. So, for example, if you sign up for Machine Sewing 101 and pay the $155 class fee, but then remember that you have trapeze school final exams that conflict with the Sewing class and shouldn’t have signed up after all, we will refund you $130 of your tuition payment.

Gift certificate purchase:
If you have a Machine Project gift certificate you’d like to redeem for a class, please email us at machine@machineproject.com and let us know.
