EVENT: Hold Your Applause : Four Takes on Clapping
Friday, May 2nd at 8pm

An event about clapping, organized on the occasion of Cabinet magazine’s new issue on Celebration. Writer Kate Wolf will speak about clapping history, etiquette, and semiotics; musicians Nick Tamburro and John Atkinson will perform Steve Reich’s Clapping Music (1972); ethnomusicologist Carol Merrill-Mirsky will teach a clapping game, c. 1980 Los Angeles playgrounds; and artist Casey Anderson will lead an interactive artwork, QUARTERS (CLAPPING).

Friend of Machine Reid Ulrich has curated a variety of installations, performances and workshops in our little room, visible from our front windows. Keep an eye out for a human directional (#HD02) trapped in the MPPSfP and an ephemeral millinery sculpture.
MACHINE PROJECT FIELD GUIDE TO GRAND PARK : Grand Rounds with Elana Mann
Tuesdays in May
As part of the Machine Project Field Guide to Grand Park, artist Elana Mann and facilitator Camilo Cruz will hold informal discussions with Los Angeles County and City employees every Tuesday in May in Grand Park, starting May 6th. These conversations will center on the different voices, ears, and roles both public officials and citizens use to invigorate communities.

Our roaming theater in Grand Park is hosting performances this Thursday and Sunday as part of our Machine Project Field Guide to Grand Park. This week, keep an eye out for performances of a re-imagined Rip Van Winkle story, tiny toy pianos, and mini poems. For a full schedule, click here.
