Introduction to design for multiple media — mainly Web and print

If you’re not a designer but are sometimes called upon to design things,
this class is for you. We’ll walk through a typical design process and along
the way we’ll learn some basic tips and tricks, design strategies, and some
broad design principles. The goal is not so much that you will become a good
designer in two 3-hour sessions, but more that you will learn how to avoid
some of bad design’s biggest traps.

Materials: Bring a laptop and whatever software you use to design stuff.

Additionally, you’re encouraged to bring in one design disaster (preferably
of your own making) which we’ll look at as a class and see what can be done
to help.

Topics covered:
– Design process
– Design “rules”
– Tools of design
– Basic Principles
– Basic Typography
