Max/MSP/Jitter is an object-oriented graphical programming environment designed for music, signal processing, and multimedia. Max has been in use worldwide for nearly two decades by performers, composers, artists, teachers, and students. It’s extremely flexible and powerful, but it’s easy for non-programmers to learn, and it’s also remarkably modular and extensible. It’s cross-platform. It’s especially good for iterative experimentation. If you can imagine it, you can almost certainly build it in Max.

Jitter is the visual media portion of Max/MSP/Jitter – it’s a set of matrix data processing objects optimized for images, video and 3D graphics. Built around QuickTime (video) and OpenGL (hardware-accelerated 3D graphics), Jitter lets you turn data into images into video into audio into 3D objects – or any combination thereof. The workshop will begin with a quick introduction to Max/MSP/Jitter, followed by in-depth explorations of Jitter’s extensive toolset for live and recorded video, image processing and 3D graphics. Even if you’ve never used Max/MSP/Jitter before – even if you’ve never programmed anything in your life – you’ll be up to speed in no time.
