3000 years of GeoHacking

Chris Spurgeon
1pm Saturday afternoon June 10th

Mapmaking, navigating, and surveying are among the oldest human activities, so it’s no surprise that humans have come up with a dizzying array of clever skills, techniques and down and dirty hacks in order to answer that timeless question “Where the hell am I?” This talk will provide a whirlwind tour through the worlds of science, geography, and visual design, highlighting moments of cartographic brilliance.

Also, there will be popsicles.

Chris Spurgeon is a web developer and designer at American Public Media in Los Angeles. He’s also a lifelong history of science nut, with a particular interest in the history of mapping and measurement. He blogs about science, technology, art, design, the net, and the places where they all intersect, at http://www.spurgeonworld.com/blog/
