If you happen to be in Denver and can’t join us for beets + beats, don’t feel left out! Instead, you should go to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver and hang out with Chris Kallmyer. He’ll be making music by and for beasts as part of their event Art Meets Beast. Five hundred Denver residents will be feasting on a bison dinner during a week of bison-related activities and lectures, and Chris and a small band of musicians will be periodically interrupting that dinner to play music on bison horn trumpets they’ve made, as well with a quadraphonic recording of a bison stampede. And at the Hammer Museum on Thursday, November 11th from 6:30-9pm, it’s your last chance to receive a live personal soundtrack from your very own roving guitarist. Come view the current exhibitions while Dylan McKenzie or Eric Klerks improvise music only you can hear. Final performance!
Beets, beats and beasts this week
Sign up for this Saturday’s workshop The Transparent Substrate: A Workshop on Beet Papers and Beat Makers, at Machine Project on Saturday, November 13th, 2010 from 3-5:30pm. Led by Julia Goodman and Scott Cazan, you’ll wield a rubber mallet to produce fine papers made from slices of beets, and listen to live sound feedback of the process while enjoying beet treats.

While you’re there, be sure to stop in to the Little William Theater any time between 6-9pm on Thursday, November 11th, and visit Corey Fogel and his whole drum kit inside the tiny coatroom under the stairs. You’ll get to hear the drums like you previously have not heard the drums: close-up, intimate, and in a confined acoustic space. (BYO earplugs.)
