Machine This Week: March 16th to March 23rd

Event: Sesíon Continua: A Porn Theater in Echo Park
Friday, March 20, 11:59pm
Saturday, March 21, 11:59pm

This weekend Dirty Looks: Los Angeles takes over the Machine Project Mystery Theater for a 24-hour marathon screening of classic gay and lesbian erotica. Presented in “sesíon continua” style – no schedules, no set attendance times – guests are invited to slip in and out or stay a while to witness a bygone approach towards explicit cinema. Entrance is through the alley by the gas station, $12 cover.

Event: Lizard Weekend: A Picnic for Humans and Lizards
Saturday, March 21, 3pm

While vintage erotica streams beneath our floorboards, we’ve dedicated the rest of the weekend to the glorious union between humans and lizards. On Saturday afternoon at 3pm, meet us at the Stough Canyon Nature Center in Burbank where we’ll hike to the ruins of an old boy scout camp, now inhabited by lizards. We’ll stop there for a picnic of bugs and veggies to be enjoyed by both humans and lizards, prepared by artist Candice Lin, and a lizard meditation from Asher Hartman, before heading back down the mountain to our own burrows.

Event: Lizard Weekend: A Lecture for Lizards and Humans
Sunday, March 22, 8pm

Sunday evening Lizard Weekend continues with a lecture for lizards and humans by lizard researcher Marion Preest. Dr. Preest will present on multiple aspects of feeding in lizards including Chameleon techniques for luring prey, the effect of head size on sand-swimming-skinks, and changes in prey-capture abilities as lizards transition through puberty. Essential information for the modern Angeleno.

Event: High Desert Test Sites and Machine Project Off Road Expo
Saturday, March 28
Sunday, March 29

Machine Project and High Desert Test Sites are going camping together and we’d like you to join us! Next weekend we’ll depart Machine Project and head out to a secret desert location, about two hours from Joshua Tree and Los Angeles. We’ve invited eight artists to do projects throughout the weekend, and you the public are invited to bring things to share, show, or just to keep yourself occupied. You can purchase a ticket (sliding scale) to receive the location, or bring an item from our very long wishlist. Current items we desire include oil lanterns, emergency flares, and containers of gasoline. Hope to see you there!
