Data smugglers, whistleblowers, cyber couriers, and net-runners come down to Machine Project this Friday, May 29th at 8pm, to learn the basics of email encryption, as practiced in a real-world whistleblower scenario. The information is critical, security is tantamount, they’re always watching… so what can you do?

In this latest LA Cryptoparty, Professor Y of the Crypto-trailer team will walk you through the basics of PGP email encryption, using the initial communications of Edward Snowden and Laura Poitras as our model. Friday night will review how Snowden and Poitras securely established technical trust and began communications. We’ll learn to anonymously make initial contact with a source, verify the security of an encrypted message, as well as tips for maintaining secure communications over time.

This is the first installment of our latest programming series: Data Smuggler’s 101, and the latest installment of the Los Angeles Cryptoparties. Look for the Crypto-trailer parked out front.
