After years of collaboration between Machine Project and Wave Books, the AWP conference inspired us to come up with a different kind of off-site reading – one that was truly site specific, and one that offered a different kind of poetry immersion than the usual AWP poetry reading marathon – which tends to feature 10 or more poets reading very very briefly. We still wanted lots of poets, but we wanted lots more poetry. Quickly we knew we wanted a chance to hear entire books at once – to get with the movement, the sweep of an entire book, the feel of each poem’s co-existence with all its poem friends. And so the Wave Books-Machine Project 5 Day Poetry Marathon was born.
From Wednesday, March 30th through Sunday, April 3rd – join us in the Machine Project Mystery Theater for 58 hours of poetry from 25 wonderful poets. Ticket sales are per reading, $10 general or $5 for Machine members, for the rare opportunity to hear poets read their books in their entirety. Sign up for just one, or spend your whole week in our dark, subterranean theater. Feeling overwhelmed? Never fear! The whole marathon will be recorded for our online poetry archive, to be listened to at your convenience. This project was curated by Machine Project Poet Laureate Anthony McCann, and Wave Editor Joshua Beckman.
