intro to the dynamic webz

Overview of two open source PHP tools: WordPress and PmWiki. Both are deceptively simple to install and use. Both are powerful enough to run a fairly complex medium-size website. Once a website is configured with one of these tools, the site can be maintained with push-button updates.

– WordPress installation
– MySql
– Fantastico

– plugins
– uploads
– backups

day 2:
– WordPress review and problem solving
– pmwiki installation
– configuration
– authentication
– skins
– backup

prerequisites:
live hosted domain with control panel
some basic familiarity with FTP and text editors

outcome:
functional installations of WordPress and/or PmWiki
basic understanding of dynamically generated web sites
awareness of the benefits and concerns of a PHP-based site
