Bollywood Film Music: an evening with Rajen Sukhadia 7pm FREE
This Friday at 7pm we present a series of Bollywood Film Music videos, projected on the big screen, and then supplemented with live song performances, analysis, and historical/political insight by Rajen Sukhadia. RD Burman, SD Burman, Asha Bosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Rafi, and all the mega stars will be given due attention. We promise gregarious song and dance, whimsical musical arrangements, gaudy colors, and extremely melodramatic love scenes…all of this, of course, without any kissing on screen. Bring the kids! Daal 101 Workshop 11am – 1pm $65 (limited to 12 participants)
on Saturday, come to Machine to cook a traditional Gujarati (western India) meal with cooking master, Saroj Sukhadia. This workshop is totally hands on, giving participants step by step insight into making daal (a nourishing lentil based soup), a potato dish, cinnamon basmati rice, and cilantro chutney. $65 includes all ingredients, recipes, and of course a full lunch. Sound, Spirit, and Service…all three will be highlighted in Saturday’s evening of devotional Indian music at Machine Project. Special guests include Sheela Bringi (vocal and bansuri), Clinton Patterson (trumpet and Rhodes), Carter Wallace (Upright Bass), Rajen Sukhadia (vocals and harmonium), Saroj Sukhadia (manjira) and Robin Sukhadia (tabla). Henna Workshop with Saroj Sukhadia 11am – 1pm $20
Saroj Sukhadia will teach the art of henna tattoo. Learn the history of henna, different Henna patterns, and learn to be a Henna artist yourself. Participants will be taught how to prepare henna for skin application as well as the technique for design. $20 workshop fee covers all materials and tuition.
