This week at Machine Project
1. On Friday February 8th at 8pm, we’re hosting the first-ever competition for the new sport of Cabling (aka competitive cable untangling), founded by Steven Schkolne, and featuring interns in jumpsuits, a discussion of knot theory, three rounds of untangling various extension and A/V cords, and pretzels. Qualifying rounds will be two nights before on Wednesday, February 6th, from 8-11pm. If you’d like to try out for a spot in the competition, please email us at machine@machineproject.com to schedule a time to come in on the 6th. We strongly encourage aspiring competitors to come up with intimidating Cabling nicknames for themselves.
2. We have negotiated the Mithril shipments needed for the armor for Brody Condon – Performance Modification (Nauman) that happens from 8-10pm Saturday February 9th. To recap – 10 performers outfitted in medieval/space/fantasy armor re-create Bruce Nauman’s 1973 work “Tony Sinking into the Floor, Face Up and Face Downâ€. Performed in slow motion and combined with movements based on computer game death animations, this piece is accompanied by a high volume binaural beats reputed to induce out of body experiences.
3. At 1pm Sunday February 10th we have a Living Kitchen lecture and walk with Nance Klehm. Do you like to cook with others? Are you wondering what to do with your cabbage/apples/dandelions? Are you curious about foraging for wild plants? Nance will lead a foraging walk for salad greens, come back to Machine and make and share a salad while presenting some of her recent projects. This is an introduction to a series of classes Nance will be teaching on making cheese, wine, and pickling that will all be accompanied by a shared light meal with her students. Details here.
4. We have a couple spots left in our sewing class with Annie O’Malley, which starts Saturday.
