How did the seventeenth century make its best comets?
In this one-off event, art historian Matthew Hunter (Caltech) and philosopher of science Roman Frigg (London School of Economics) will present footage of a sulfuric acid-based model of comet-anatomy devised by seventeenth century experimental philosopher Robert Hooke and discuss scientific modeling more broadly. The event will also serve as a pre-launch party for the speakers’ forthcoming book, *Beyond Mimesis and Convention: Representation in Art and Science* (Springer, 2010). Come drink the comet!
