Machine Project invites you to celebrate Bloomsday with a real-time, silent & communal reading of James Joyce’s Ulysses.
Set in Dublin on June 16, 1904, Ulysses takes place over the course of a single day, but since it’s an impenetrably dense 900-page novel, it usually takes months, if not years, to read. But this Bloomsday, we are going to attempt the impossible: Colin Dickey will conduct an all day literary marathon in which you’re invited to silently read (or, rather, speed-read) all of Joyce’s Ulysses (one chapter per hour). We’ll have chairs, tables, and a few extra copies of the book available for you to read along for the whole day or a duration of your choosing.
