Fermentation Explained
Grain
Hops
Yeast
We will brew a batch of beer from extract.
We’ll make another batch of beer, this time using the all-grain method, which is more complex than the extract method and requires more hardware, but it allows for more control over the final project.
We will make individual batches of mead or cider using a variety of fermentables. I’ll explain the differences between different fermentables and techniques. We will rack the extract beer off of its yeast into a secondary fermenter. Bottling will be explained. Perhaps, chicha will be part of the mix too. As we brew, musician Chris Kallmyer will perform music composed using the sounds of beer brewing. The class will end with a tasting session of several of Gerard’s own brews — please feel free to invite friends and family to join from 3:00-4:00pm.
Refund policy:
Please note, all class fees include a non-refundable enrollment deposit of $25 that will be deducted from your refund if you sign up for, then drop, a class. So, for example, if you sign up for Machine Sewing 101 and pay the $155 class fee, but then remember that you have trapeze school final exams that conflict with the Sewing class and shouldn’t have signed up after all, we will refund you $130 of your tuition payment.
Gift certificate purchase:
If you have a Machine Project gift certificate you’d like to redeem for a class, please email us at machine@machineproject.com and let us know.
