Diversity in the Natural World: What crane flies and lichens can tell us.

Lichens and crane flies are vastly different organisms, but approaches in their study have many surprising similarities. In this talk, lichenologist Dr. Irwin Brodo (coauthor of “Lichens of North America”) and entomologist Dr. Fenja Brodo (founding Board Member of the Eastern Ontario Biodiversity Museum) will talk about their experiences in studying biodiversity and taxonomy.

They will touch on:

• Biodiversity inventories, conservation and climate change.
• Distinguishing one thing from another.
• Why names are important. Does everything have a name?
• Discovering novelties in nature.
