EVENT : Catherine Wagner and Aaron Kunin
Tuesday, October 23rd at 8pm
Come down for a poetry reading by Catherine Wagner and Aaron Kunin. Cathy is in town from Ohio and has a new book out on City Lights called Nervous Device. Aaron Kunin teaches at Pomona College and his most recent collection is entitled The Sore Throat published by Fence Books.

EVENT : Build-A-Beer
Friday, October 26th at 8pm with $10 RSVP
Home brewers Andrew Hong and Nick Clute-Reinig will discuss different ingredients, then take one of our beers (or bring your own) and play around with various extracts, oils, and other flavors to create new styles on the spot. Turn a boring old pale ale into an IPA in a matter of seconds. Make a coffee stout in the blink of an eye. Beer magic? More or less. So come on by and confuse your taste buds. EVENT : Recipe Testing in Theory and Practice
Saturday, October 27th at 4pm
How is a cookbook written? How is a recipe recorded? What is the language of food writing? How can a single ingredient destroy, or elevate a dish? These questions and more will be discussed in an informal lecture and demonstration on the mechanics and practice of professional recipe testing. With a background in personal cheffing and culinary producing, Sonya Masinovsky has recently been working as a recipe tester for a new soon to-be published cookbook. Her lecture will be accompanied by a short demonstration, followed by an interactive audience tasting session.

EVENT : Aerobic Butter and Anaerobic Bread workshops
Sunday, October 28th. Aerobic Butter sessions at noon and 2pm with $10 sign up.
Artist Michael O’Malley will teach amateur breadmakers the art of baking on the grill outside the Machine Project gallery. Inside, Pop Soda’s Jimmy Fusil conducts an aerobics class/buttermaking workshop, shaking jars of fresh cream until it magically transforms into butter! Soda’s Mike Wait will churn the fitness tunes and jock jams. Participants will learn about the chemistry of butter and the physics of bread, and maybe even get a good workout, only to finish by enjoying fresh butter on warm bread. Sign up for an aerobic butter session below:
