Hafosafo Chorus & Sunsetfootclinicsign.com by Jessica Cowley and Bennett Williamson from machine project on Vimeo.
Bennett Williamson & Jessica Cowley present two projects based on the legend of the Sunset Boulevard Happy Foot/Sad Foot Sign’s ability to predict your good or bad day.
First, join us for a singalong in celebration of the duality of both existence and Los Angeles’ favorite anthropomorphic feet. We’ll meet at Machine Project at 7pm, then process together down Sunset Boulevard to the base of the Happy Foot Sad Foot sign where Jessica Cowley will lead a Public Space Singalong that will oscillate between happy and sad songs. Songbooks will be provided, and the tone-deaf and singing-phobic are welcome (though singing is heartily encouraged). If you want to receive a songbook and playlist to familiarize yourself with the songs before the event, just email publicspacesingalong@gmail.com with the subject line [I’m ready for an emotional roller coaster ride].
The event serves as the official launch of www.sunsetfootclinicsign.com, Bennett Williamson’s website that presents a faithfully recreated 3-D animation of the local icon. This single-serving website provides fate-prediction services for users outside of the greater Echo Park / Silverlake area. It also serves as a kind of digital life insurance for the populist landmark, spinning in perpetuity for the many chintzy vernacular L.A. landmarks and signage that have fallen victim to the developer’s bulldozer.
This event is part of Machine Project’s Field Guide to L.A. Architecture.
