OPEN CAVERN HOURS : Alvarado Caverns and Mystery Theater
Thursdays through Saturdays, 8-10pm

Our cavern open hours continue with two performances this week, including flagellated field recordings in the theater and dry ice chimes in the cavern.

*Thursday, November 14th from 8-10pm: Colin Wambsgans will play a mix of occasionally filtered field recordings including but not limited to bird sounds, engine noises, and ventilation.

*Friday, November 15th from 8-10pm: Liam Mooney will play music by misusing dry ice, vacuum cleaners, rubber bands, and other familiar materials.

THEATER PERFORMANCES : Machine Project’s Mystery Theater

Seating for all shows in the Mystery Theater is extremely limited and by advance purchase only. No late seating. All tickets are $9 for members // $15 for non-members unless otherwise noted. For a list of upcoming shows, click here.

*Saturday, November 16th and Sunday, November 17th at 2:00pm: Inside Me – Jmy James Kidd and The Sunland Dancers
A 30-minute dance piece exploring the photosynthesis process, featuring singing by Karen Adelman.

*Saturday, November 16th at 5:00pm: 16 Yokai: a Supernatural Sampler of Demonic Possession! – Jasmine Orpilla & Chris Candelaria
A minimalist ceremony of unique compositions and fearsome communication by vocal medium Jasmine Orpilla, with complex electronic soundscapes woven live by bassist Chris Candelaria! Witness the wonders of modern technology at the service of the supernatural! Experience channeled beings in eerie haiku!

*Saturday, November 16th at 11:59pm: Double bill: Johanna Kozma & Claire Kohne, Jessica Hutchins
Johanna Kozma & Claire Kohne will present Death and The Engines, a sound-based performance involving a tableaux vivant of an uncanny choir comprised of adults dressed like children. Jessica Hutchins will read a story involving a labyrinthian consumer warehouse bargain store, strip mall parkour, highway overpasses, purported magicians, optical illusions, undocumented workers, negligible special effects, mistaken identity, unfunny stand up comedy, internet dating, and Bite Club.

*Sunday, November 17th at 5:00pm: Gawdafful Psychonautic Theater: Exercises in Spirit
Gawdafful Theater’s Psychonautic Division will be conducting a series of exercises Please bring an offering and focused intentions towards someone you know who has passed, and receptivity and openness towards the exchange of energy with spirits or spiritual forces.

WORKSHOPS :

*Tuesday, November 12th from 7-9pm: Automatic Embroidery and Ghostly Encounters
Join Jenny Hart in Alvarado Caverns for a session of automatic embroidering (in the Victorian tradition of spirit writing) while discussing your personal encounters with ghosts. Participants will embroider under black lights with glow-in-the-dark and reflective threads without any pattern and minimal guidance. All supplies will be provided.

*Sunday, November 17th, Part 1 from 2-4, Part 2 from 4:15-5:30 at a lovely Silver Lake home: Bulgarian Singing Workshop
Learn tone production, odd meters, ornamentation and songs from the stunning Bulgarian polyphonic tradition with Kate Conklin, Bulgarian singing scholar and former Cirque de Soleil performer. No previous experience necessary!

Registration for Part 1 (beginners) is $25 for general admission & $20 for Machine Project members. Registration for Part 1 & Part 2 (advanced techniques) is $35 general admission & $30 for Machine Project members.
