A performance for the ghost of António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro (1848 – 1920) — botanist, bibliophile, alchemist, collector, and general enthusiast of nature and the mysteries of the universe. Monteiro’s many passions and his collaboration with set designer/architect Luigi Manini led to the enigma that is Quinta da Regaleira; a castle whose architecture and grounds seem to exist in another world, woven together with complex symbology, spiritual aspirations, and a dedication to the senses. Join us as we explore the paths of science, ascend the spiral staircase, and smell the magnolias. We will keep time and cycle with the operations of the sun, stars, and gods. From light to darkness and then back to light again.
