This workshop with David Casey will teach you how to turn anything that can be plugged into an AC power outlet on and off with an arduino or other microcontroller.
Participants should bring their knowledge of arduino & their board, a laptop with arduino software installed, and a fan, radio, lamp, turntable, or any other simple household electronic you’d like to be able to turn on and off.
As an example of what you can do with this knowledge, David writes about the installation he made at the Machine Project Holiday Party in 2013: “Automated turntables are fun! You can do neat things like make even the most happy music sound kinda sad. Like what I did for the Machine Project Christmas party — take one Charlie Brown Christmas record, one Arduino-controlled turntable, and the party just got a little creepy. The controller made the turntable randomly start and stop with that slow, inevitable deceleration the signals the slow, inevitable ending. And beginning!”
