Event: The Third Rail Issue 4 Launch and Plumb Line Screening
Wednesday, January 28th // 7-9pm
Come to Machine Project this Wednesday evening for a rare screening of Carolee Shneemann’s 16mm film Plumb Line (1971), in celebration of the launch of Issue 4 of The Third Rail Quarterly, an intriguing and thoughtful publication by some of our favorite Minneapolitans. We’ll have refreshments, free copies of the latest issue, and Plumb Line screening in our secret underground Mystery Theater. If you can’t make the event, be sure to check them out at the LA Art Book Fair this weekend! Upcoming: Urban Cat Architecture
Caturday February 7th, Caturday February 14th, and Caturday February 28th // 1-4pm
The City of Los Angeles is considering upping the legal limit of cats you can own to five, just in time for our Urban Cat Architecture workshop. Go stock up on felines and come on down to Machine Project Caturday, February 7th for the first of three sessions covering all things feline-architecture. We’ll start with cat trees, scratching posts, cat towers, and indoor kitty homes, advance in difficulty to outdoor catios and window boxes, and conclude in glory with the rare and highly esteemed KITTY AQUARIUM. You’ll learn some building skills along the way, and your cats will revere you for the constructions you bring home. Don’t miss out! Upcoming: Felting and Natural Dyeing Workshop
Sunday, February 8th // 1-5pm
Come celebrate the Year of the Sheep with our Felting and Natural Dyeing Workshop. Artist Carolyn Mason will lead participants in the processing of the natural dyes cochineal and indigo – the substances that have defined the colors red and blue for centuries. We’ll turn raw wool into beautiful sculptural felt objects, make your own dye vats for coloring the felt, and we’ll spend some time at our local laundromat discussing the ancient history behind this fiber art and the conflicted past of these primary colors. Be sure to wear clothes you don’t mind staining with beautiful pigments.
