    ACCORDION DUO

  • Daniel Corral

    Daniel Corral is a composer and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Eagle River, AK. Currently residing in the L.A. area, his unique voice has found a diverse range of outlets. He has accompanied avante-garde puppetry all across the USA, had his music performed by an orchestra riding the Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel, been featured at a USC faculty concert of original player piano music, displayed his massive multi-movement music boxes at galleries all over Los Angeles, composed for a number of films and dance performances, and much more.
  • Isaac Schankler

    Isaac Schankler is a composer, pianist, accordionist and electronic musician living in Los Angeles. He performs with various groups including: The Shpil (klezmer), AK and Her Kalashnikovs (gypsy swing), Paula Kelley Orchestra (chamber pop), TempWerks (laptop quartet) and Killsonic (jazz-punk collective). His chamber opera Light and Power, with libretto by Jillian Burcar, will be premiered by the Boston Opera Collaborative and Juventas New Music Ensemble in Spring 2011. An expert on interactions between music and technology, he is a research consultant for the Music Computation and Cognition laboratory (MuCoaCo) at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, and co-director of People Inside Electronics, a concert series for live electroacoustic music.

  • James Sullivan

    James Sullivan explores the creative possibilities of the entire clarinet family. In addition to the soprano clarinets, he has cultivated a virtuosic command of the bass clarinet. He plays in diverse chamber music settings from classical to avant-garde and has performed with a range of orchestras, including Los Angeles Philharmonic and Seattle Symphony. He has been a featured artist with Zebulon Projects, Jacaranda, Dangerous Curve and Microfest, appeared as soloist on KPFK and KCSUN, performs with Ensemble Green, Palma Chamber Group, Inauthentica and improvisation ensembles Brad Dutz Quartet and Freshly Squeezed. Mr. Sullivan studied at Interlochen Arts Academy, Cleveland Institute of Music, Florida State University (B.M.), CalArts (M.F.A.) and teaches at Pasadena Conservatory of Music and the Academy of Creative Education. Fall 2008 activities include performing at Territory Contemporary Arts Festival in Moscow, Russia and teaching clarinet and chamber music at California Institute of the Arts.
  • Brian Walsh

    Brian Walsh is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts and the Los Angeles High School for the Arts. He has studied clarinet with William Powell, Gary Bovyer, Debrah Kanter, and Val Grayson. He has studied improvisation with Bobby Bradford, Vinny Golia, and Ben Goldberg. Brian performs with such diverse groups as: The Industrial Jazz Group, The Vinny Golia Large Ensemble, chamber music ensembles Enthaupthung, Inauthentica, and the Kairos Ensemble. Past collaborations have included: Bobby Bradford, Vinny Golia, Nels Cline, Alex Cline, Harris Eisenstadt, Kris Tiner, Peter Epstein, Money Mark, Bright Eyes, Josh Ritter, Lorna Luft, The Kreative Orchestra of Los Angeles, Dan Clucas, Mark Appelbaum, Mark Menzies, James Newton, Larry Koonse, Muhal Richard Abrams, Butch Morris, Wadada Leo Smith, John Oswald, Gavin Bryars, Lynn Johnston, Eugene Chadbourne, Ensemble Green, The Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, The San Bernadino Symphony, The Santa Cecilia Orchestra and the Riverside Philharmonic.
  • TUBA DUO

  • Doug Tornquist

    ” . . . a player of astonishing flamboyance” (the Los Angeles Times) and “impressive dash” (the Orange County Register), Doug Tornquist has been a part of southern California’s freelance musical world since 1987. He combines a busy life of recording, performing and teaching. He has taught award-wining brass quintets at the University of Southern California and is also a member of the faculties of the California State Universities at Northridge and Fullerton, Pepperdine University and the California Institute of the Arts. He is a regular performer in the major orchestras in the region, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Opera, and has performed on the scores of many films, including those of John Williams, James Newton Howard, Elmer Bernstein, Danny Elfman, and Alan Sylvestri. His degrees are from Wichita State Universtiy and the University of Southern California, where he earned his DMA. He was a prize Winner at the International Tuba and Euphonium Competition in Riva del Garda, Italy, He recently recorded a CD featuring solo tuba and other instruments, as well as two albums with the German brass quintet, Quintadillac.
  • Luke Storm

    Luke Storm is a graduate of CalArts and the University of Oregon. Recent appearances include performances with the California E.A.R. Unit, Oregon Bach Festival, Long Beach Symphony, Jacaranda, Sunriver Music Festival, Eugene Symphony, and more. In his ongoing effort to promote new and diverse repertoire for the tuba, he has premiered works by Larry Polansky, Wolfgang von Schweinitz, Ulrich Krieger, and Nick Didkovsky. He is a member of Trio Kobayashi, specializing in the emerging field of just intonation music for brass.
  • VIOLIN DUO

  • Andrew McIntosh

    Violinist, violist, and composer Andrew McIntosh focuses primarily on performing and expanding the repertoire of compelling and experimental music. McIntosh is a member of the Formalist Quartet, which is also dedicated to adventurous and relevant repertoire and regularly performs around the country. He holds degrees in violin and composition from the University of Nevada, Reno and the California Institute of the Arts. As a chamber musician he has played in festivals, concerts, art spaces, and recordings around the US and Europe with the Formalist Quartet, Tholl/McIntosh duo, Quatuor Bozzini, Rohan de Saram, and many others. As a solo artist he has appeared in venues such as Stanford University, REDCAT, the Wulf, the Hammer Museum, and KPFK Pacifica Radio, as well as with the New Century Players, Santa Cecilia Orchestra, Reno Philharmonic, and inauthentica. He also recently was the viola soloist in the US premiere of Gèrard Grisey’s Les Espaces Acoustiques, for which performance the LA Times said he “played […] with commanding beauty”. As a composer, McIntosh strives to write vibrant and compelling pieces while bringing a spirit of experimentalism to the music, usually through working with just intonation and frequency ratios. A native of rural Northern Nevada, McIntosh is currently based in Los Angeles where he is principal viola of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra and enjoys a large and frequently unexpected variety of performing, recording, teaching, and composing activities.
  • Andrew Tholl

    Andrew Tholl is a violinist and composer from Phoenix, Arizona. As both a soloist and chamber musician he is dedicated to the performance of new music as well as the collaborative process between composer and performer. Along with the Formalist Quartet (which he co-founded in 2006) he is a member of the collectives inauthentica and wildUp. Compositionally, his interest lies in the exploration of the passage of time, the physicality of making music, noise, nostalgia, and the merging of diverse musical styles. Both his performances and compositions have been heard across the United States and Europe. He holds degrees from Arizona State University, the University of Michigan, and the California Institute of the Arts. Additionally, he maintains a second musical life as a drummer and improviser having played with the bands Paper Tiger Trio and The Teeth. He is currently pursuing a D.M.A in composition and performance at the California Institute of the Arts and working on his first solo CD release. Andrew lives in Los Angeles where he is involved with music for concert halls, art galleries, films, puppet shows, bars, garages, bedrooms, and even coat closets.
