- The Machine Project Field Guide to the Gamble House
For The Machine Project Field Guide to The Gamble House, Machine Project commissions a diverse group of Los Angeles artists to create new works exploring, celebrating, and dramatizing the Arts and Crafts masterpiece The Gamble House by architects Greene & Greene.
- The Machine Project Field Guide to Grant Park
Machine Project, in partnership with The Music Center, will animate and celebrate Grand Park in downtown LA through a series of creative endeavors including an interactive weather station, a disembodied Raymond Chandler describing Los Angeles at dusk, mutant park furniture (with embedded tracking device), and a wandering miniature theatre. Through participatory performance work, artists will transform the landscape and soundscape of the park into lively art, free and open to the public with projects proposing new ways for the public to interact with art and ideas in public spaces.
- Machinations in the Library
Machine Project artists reimagine and respond to the Central Library’s space and/or collections. From a sound and dance improvisation inspired by a photograph of legendary choreographer Bella Lewitzky in the LAPL’s photo collection, to site-specific video installations (including one based on used books unearthed in a library book sale)—these artists will transform various areas of Central Library into an interactive multimedia playground, allowing for a unique participatory experience.Installations and Performances with Joel Fox, Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Jeepneys, Jmy James Kidd and Tara ONeil - The Machine Project Field Guide to LA Architecture
Machine Project recently invited over 20 artists to create performances that respond to notable architectural sites throughout Los Angeles, collectively creating The Machine Project Field Guide to L.A. Architecture. The project was part of the larger Getty initiative, Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A.. With grant funding from the Getty Foundation, Machine Project asked artists to take on the whole environment of Los Angeles and create performances shot on video and edited into short experimental films. We partnered with KCET to premiere these films both online and on-air.You can watch video and read the accompanying articles here. - The Machine Project Field Guide to the Former Robert Rauschenberg Painting Storage Facility on 19th Street in Chelsea
In the yearlong series,The Machine Project Field Guide to the Former Robert Rauschenberg Painting Storage Facility on 19th Street in Chelsea, we will develop performances, lectures, workshops and other participatory interventions – to be tested and work-shopped at both Machine Project and Robert Rauschenberg Project Space in preparation for our month-long show in September 2014. These occasional pop-up performances and interventions will map the potential and possibilities of these relationships and spaces, with a more in-depth presentation of the findings in September. - Intimate Science
Machine Project is on the road with this traveling exhibition that features artists who are engaged in non-disciplinary inquiry. For our part we are showing films and hosting workshops on mind-reading. Venues include: Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh , PA, Southern Exposure, San Francisco, CA, Real Art Ways, Hartford, CT, Williamson Gallery, Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA and Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum, University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
- Machine Project in Miami
Machine project is teaming up with Cannonball (Miami) to host three Los Angeles artists-in-residence creating new performance-based works and workshops in response to Miami. Participating artists include Corey Fogel, Asher Hartman, and Juliana Snapper. Read more here.

Southern Machine Exposure Project
Southern Exposure (San Francisco) and Machine Project (Los Angeles) visited apartments, houses, backyards, and garages for 20 consecutive days/evenings of performances, psychic readings, workshops, ghost detecting, participatory foley effects, tableaux vivants, pet portraits, experimental music by dogs, low frequency sound performances (in closets), and general awesomeness throughout the month of June 2012. -
Walker Art Center
Machine was invited to Minneapolis for the last two weeks of July 2011 as part of the Walker’s Open Field summer jubilee. We taught kids to break into cars, showed people how to make pickles, ate pickle ice cream, screened an opera by and for dogs, played music in the parking garage, hid in the closet, ran around and passed out on the lawn, and more. - Los Angeles in Paris
In 2013, Los Angeles-based Machine Project and Paris-based Mains d’Œuvres, both cutting-edge alternative art spaces in their respective cities, are pairing up for Los Angeles Chez Vous ! Paris at Your Home ! An international artist- and gallery-exchange program of public performances in private homes. An experiment in curation, context-trading, and the possibilities of public art, Los Angeles Chez Vous ! / Paris at Your Home ! is an unprecedented re-imagining of the home as both a site of cultural production and a locus for public exchange. Domestically and internationally scaled, the project creates a new kind of partnership with its artists and public, through a distinctly 21st-century model of cultural institutional networks. SPACES, Cleveland
Machine produced a project at SPACES in Cleveland from February 11-April 1 of 2011. There were custom crafted “couchbleachers” as well as a series of Machine Project Artists-in-Residence which explored a wide range of things from psychic mediumship to percussive juicing. -
Berkeley Art Museum // L@TE
Machine produced three events as part of Berkeley Art Museum’s L@TE program. People got covered in tranimal make up, tasted and listened to cheese, and participated in a wine-glass-drone-music-folk-choir-mash-up of epic proportions. -
Hammer Museum Residency
Machine Project was invited to produce a year of programming which proposed innovative ways of presenting work at the Hammer Museum. We investigated different ideas of audiences from intimate, focused performances for small groups to dispersed, ambient spatial pieces without formal audiences at all. -
Museum of Contemporary Art Denver
Did you know a bison can jump six feet high? We didn’t. We learned tons of new stuff about bison while we prepared for a three day, nose-to-tail bison roast at MCA Denver. More information about bison masks, a ghost stampede, and music from bison horns here.

Field Guide to LACMA
Machine Project was invited to take over the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for a day to explore other ways of occupying the space and interacting with the art. We orchestrated over 60 performances and activities that responded to LACMA’s collection and institutional structure. Pomona College Museum of Art
For our first museum collaboration, Machine Project assembled four installations exploring Cultural History and the Natural Sciences at the Pomona College Museum of Art.More information about Machine Project at the Pomona College Museum of Art here.

Contemporary Museum of Art St Louis
Machine Project was invited to be in residence for three weeks at the Contemporary Art Museum St Louis. Projects included a three week residency by Emily Lacy, a silkscreen pattern wall paper designed by Paul Morgan, Kimchi and Sauerkraut workshops, and a special musical trip to the dentist.
