We’re looking for an organized, flexible and enthusiastic individual to manage the events and daily operations at our storefront in Echo Park. The Operations Manager position offers an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in working in a creative and dynamic non-profit arts/arts administration environment. This is a full-time position, 40 hours/wk, flexible schedule with frequent evening and weekend hours required.
Job Description:
The Operations Manager will serve as an advocate of Machine Project’s mission and act as a spokesperson to its audience and supporters. The Operations Manager will co-curate and produce all events and oversee day-to-day management of the Echo Park storefront gallery and resident artist apartment, including the following duties:
Event Curation:
- Working closely with the Executive Director and staff to co-curate events and workshops.
Event Production:
- Scheduling all events, workshops and classes at the storefront gallery
- Liaising with the community to research and grow our instructor base
- Communicating with artists/presenters and instructors to obtain event/class details, determining pricing as needed for workshops
- Providing audio/visual and production support for events, exhibitions and classes; setting up for and closing up after events and classes
- Interfacing with the public: welcoming people/introducing events
Event Administration:
- Creating and updating webpages for all events and classes
- Updating the Machine Project homepage on a weekly basis with that week’s events
- Writing a weekly email to Machine Project’s email list
- Publicizing Machine Project events and classes to media outlets (Facebook, LA Weekly, blogs, Twitter, etc.)
- Managing class registration/ waitlists
- Paying instructor fees and artist honoraria
- Writing follow-up emails with workshop participants
Office/Gallery/Apartment Management:
- Paying monthly rent and bills for the gallery and residency apartment
- Managing volunteers or interns as needed.
- Managing/maintaining Machine Project’s visiting artist residency apartment
- Scheduling apartment guests
- Tracking and stocking office, gallery and apartment supplies
- Scheduling gallery and apartment cleaning and overseeing repairs
- Managing and responding to emails from the machine@machineproject.com general email address
- Processing purchases of goods made through the Machine Project website
Qualifications:
- Outgoing personality who enjoys working with and in public in an informal, creative and fast-paced environment
- Some experience in event organizing, curation and production
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Extremely organized, detail-oriented person who can mange scheduling multiple events with varied needs, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work responsively, on the fly, calmly in the face of the swirling circus that is Machine
- An excellent communicator, someone who can synthesize various stream of information
- Must be able to show personal initiative as well as work collaboratively as a member of a team
- Strong computer skills: MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator), and basic HTML. Experience and comfort with digital and social platforms, content management systems, and email newsletters
